Evidence-based practice (EBP) can be defined as the integration of best research evidence with clinical expertise and patient needs and values aimed to promote quality, safe and cost-effective outcomes to patients, families, health care providers and the health care system (Grove, Gray, & Burns, 2015). EBP has an impact in the nursing field and promotes decision making.
With working in the Birthing Center at Sutter Tracy Community Hospital, we use Evidence Based Practice in a number of procedures and Nursing care, the most importance in my opinion is handwashing. In the community hospital that I work, we are focusing on hand washing to prevent the spread of disease. According to the Centers for Disease Control (2016) health care providers practice hand hygiene less than half the times they should. The education department developed a campaign to remind you to wash your hands. The campaign consists of a person asking,”Have you seen Mr. Waters?” This is code for did you wash your hands? This statement has increased health care workers hand washing between patients by 50% according to our email report last month.
